Cities we publish in Dane County

What we cover here

One city in Dane County is published here: Madison, with twenty-three venues checked against the City of Madison Parks Division's own park pages. That is the whole of it, and the county is considerably larger: Dane County holds Madison plus more than fifty other cities, villages and towns, including Fitchburg, Middleton, Sun Prairie, Verona and Waunakee, none of which has been checked against a named source and none of which therefore appears anywhere on this site. Within Madison itself the coverage is not complete either: the City lists one further park with pickleball courts (Reindahl, with eight, four of them striped) whose street address neither of this site's address resolvers can place at a house number, so it fails the identity gate and is named on the city page rather than published.

How the courts are spread

The courts are spread across Madison rather than concentrated, which is unusual in this directory: eleven of the twenty outdoor venues carry exactly two courts, and only three carry more than three. Garner Park's six dedicated courts on the west side are the largest single site, followed by Brittingham Park's four beside Monona Bay. Everything else is a neighbourhood park with a pair of tennis courts striped for pickleball, from Nakoma Park's single court on 5.2 acres to Elver Park's three on 250. The one concentration is indoors and it is recent: five courts across two gyms at the Warner Park Community Recreation Center on the north side, which are also the only courts in the county (and among the few anywhere on this site) that can be booked in advance.

What is missing

The honest position is that this is a Madison page wearing a county heading, and it will stay that way until someone checks a second Dane County municipality. Two specific gaps are worth naming rather than leaving as a silence. The first is inside Madison: one park the City itself lists is missing because its address does not resolve, which is our gate doing its job and still a loss of eight courts. Two others, Door Creek and Rennebohm, were missing on the same ground until 4 September 2026, when this site added a second address resolver and their fourteen courts published. The second gap is everything outside the city limits (Fitchburg, Middleton, Sun Prairie, Verona), where we hold imported rows and no sources at all. Our own dataset also holds Madison records for private clubs, YMCAs, schools and commercial pickleball venues, and not one of those is published, because none carries a source we could read. Whether those operators publish court counts at all is an open question this project has not yet answered anywhere in the country.

How many pickleball courts are there in Dane County?

We do not know, and no honest page can tell you. What we can tell you is what we have checked: 67 courts across twenty-three venues, all of them in Madison, every one confirmed against the City of Madison's own park pages with a source and a date you can see. Dane County has more than fifty other municipalities and we list none of them.

Why is only Madison listed?

Because it is the only municipality in the county whose courts we have been able to confirm against a named source. A city appears here once three or more of its venues carry a source_url and a date_checked. Fitchburg, Middleton, Sun Prairie and Verona all appear in our imported data; none of those rows carries a source, so none of them is published.

What made Madison possible?

Structure. Madison Parks publishes a block on each park page reading, for example, "Tennis & Pickleball / Courts: 2, asphalt": a count and a surface in one line, for every venue on its pickleball list. Most cities publish a park name and leave you to guess. It is the only source read for this directory that has stated a playing surface for every venue it lists.

Are the courts on this page free to use?

Not confirmed. Madison publishes counts, surfaces and access rules but says nothing about cost at its outdoor park courts, so every one of them shows cost as not stated rather than free. They are municipal park courts and are very likely free; "very likely" is not a fact. The one venue that does charge says so: the Warner Park Community Recreation Center requires a membership or a daily admission.

How often is this checked again?

Madison's park pages are ordinary web pages that change without notice, so each one is snapshotted into the repository that builds this site and re-asserted on every build. If a court count or a surface changes, the build fails and someone re-reads the page. These were read on 4 September 2026, and that date appears on every venue.
