The first two numbers add together the courts we have checked and the ones we have not, just like the home page does: 454 places checked against an official source, plus 16,981 found in public listings and not confirmed yet.

Only the checked ones get a city page, and only their details are ones we will stand behind. Nearly all of those come from city and county parks departments, and each city page tells you which one.

We would rather have fewer courts and get them right. We would rather show a blank than fill it with a guess. The full story of how we check things is on How we verify.

What a listing tells you before you leave the house

Most big directories will tell you a park has six courts without saying who counted them or when.

We wanted something better: a listing that answers the questions you would otherwise be asking at the gate, and shows you where each answer came from.

• How many courts, and whether they are indoors

  So when you search for indoor courts in January, you actually get indoor courts.

• Lights, nets, fees and restrooms

  Can you play after dark? Do you need to bring your own net? Does it cost anything? Each answer is a yes, a no, or “not stated”. We never dress up a guess as a fact.

• An address and directions

  We checked the map pin against the town it sits in, so when you tap for directions you end up at the court, not somewhere down the street.

• Where we got it, and when

  The parks department page we read, and the month we read it. Click the link and you will see exactly what we saw.

Who this site is for

Three kinds of people use it: players looking for a game tonight, the parks departments that run the courts, and clubs that want their listing to be right.

  Know before you go

  Type in your city, state or ZIP code and we show you the courts nearby. Then narrow it down: indoor, outdoor, free, or lit at night.

  • Indoor and outdoor courts, city by city
  • Free public courts marked as free when the people who run them say so
  • Lights, nets, parking and restrooms shown as a yes, a no, or “not stated”

• If you run a parks department

  We list it the way you publish it

  Most courts on this site come straight from a parks department’s own website. We name you as the source, link back to your page, and never change what you published.

  • Your public courts listed for free, with your department named on the page
  • Claim a listing to fix hours, fees or court counts yourself
  • Nobody can pay to rank higher, so a small neighbourhood park gets a fair shot

• If you run a club or a court

  Claim it and keep it up to date

  Claiming your listing gives you a direct line to us and a “confirmed by the venue” label with the date. It does not buy you a higher spot, which is exactly why players trust the label.

  • Claim your court from its page in a couple of clicks
  • Tell us about a court we are missing, with a link to where it is listed
  • Send us a real photo and it replaces the stand-in picture the same day

Four things we will never do

A site like this is only as useful as the things it refuses to do. These four rules keep every other page honest.

• Say “no” when we really mean “we don’t know”

  “No lights” and “not stated” are two different things. If nobody has checked, we say so, instead of quietly putting a no.

• Copy numbers from other websites

  Three sites copying the same number from each other is still just one number nobody checked. A listing we have not checked ourselves stays marked “unverified” until we have read the official page.

• Let anyone pay to be listed higher

  Claiming a court gets you a direct line to us, not a better spot. The day we start selling spots, this stops being a directory and becomes an advert.

• Put up a city page with almost nothing on it

  If we have fewer than three checked courts in a city, that city does not get a page yet, no matter how many people search for it.

Your privacy

You do not need an account and there is nothing to install. It just works on any phone or computer.

If you let the search box use your location, the nearest courts are worked out on your own phone. Your location never gets sent to us.

We do not sell listings, we do not run ads, and we do not fill in gaps with guesses. The full policy, also in plain English, is on the privacy page.
