About this place

Three courts on asphalt, and the only outdoor venue in Madison the City marks as lit: the line on the park's page reads "Courts: 3, asphalt, lighted". Tenney is 38.12 acres on the near east side along the Yahara River, and the City's description is unusually lyrical for a parks page: "With its friendly atmosphere and impressive display of storybook scenery Tenney Park serves as a place to socialize, a peaceful recluse, and a place to just be. It's an excellent place to watch boats launch, seagulls flock, let the children play at the park, or just catch up on some reading."

Getting there

1414 E. Johnson St., Madison, WI 53703, matched by the Census geocoder to Madison city, Dane County. The park sits on the isthmus between Lake Mendota and the Yahara River locks, a short distance from the Capitol, so it is reachable on foot and by bike from much of the near east side. Yes, and Tenney is the only Madison venue where we can say so. The City's line reads "Courts: 3, asphalt, lighted", and no other park's does. Madison marks the lit courts rather than the unlit ones, so everywhere else is unknown rather than dark.
