Outdoor Pickleball Courts in Madison, WI

Why this matters here

Sixty-two of Madison's sixty-seven courts are outdoor, across twenty-two venues, and in a city at this latitude that is a statement about the calendar as much as the geography. The five indoor courts at the Warner Park Community Recreation Center are the whole of the alternative when the asphalt is under snow, and they require a membership or a daily admission and a booking. Everything on this list is the opposite proposition: turn up, first come, first served, no stated charge. What makes the list worth reading rather than counting is that Madison states what each court is made of (asphalt at twenty venues, sport court tile at two) and whether it is shared with tennis, which twenty-one of the twenty-two are.

What puts a venue on this list

A venue appears here when the City of Madison states an outdoor court count for it on that park's own page, in the block headed "Tennis & Pickleball" or, at Garner Park alone, "Pickleball". Twenty-two qualify, from Nakoma Park's single court to Door Creek's eight. An unqualified count is a count of courts you can play pickleball on, and we know that because Madison marks the exception: Reindahl Park reads "Courts: 8, asphalt; 4 striped for pickleball". What does not qualify is a venue whose address we cannot resolve. Three were refused on that ground when Madison first published: Door Creek, Reindahl and Rennebohm, all on the City's pickleball list with counts and surfaces. On 4 September 2026 this site added a second address resolver, consulted only where the US Census has no record and accepted only when it returns the house number asked for; Door Creek and Rennebohm resolve that way and now appear on this page, and Reindahl still does not. That is eight courts refused on identity rather than on data.

Will I be playing over a tennis net?

At nineteen of the twenty, yes, and Madison is unusually honest about what that means: dual-striped courts "use a tennis net which is about 2\" taller than a standard pickleball net". Garner Park is the exception: six dedicated pickleball courts, Madison's only ones, with a net at the right height.

Which of these are lit?

Tenney Park's three, and no others we can confirm. Madison marks the lit courts rather than the unlit ones, so the other nineteen venues read "not stated": nobody has told us either way. There is no /lights/ page for Madison because one venue does not meet the three-venue threshold this site requires before a filter page may exist.

What is "sport court tile"?

The City's own term for the surface at Reynolds Park and Westmorland Park, recorded here under the controlled value modular_tile, a modular surface laid in panels over a base, rather than asphalt poured flat. It plays and drains differently. The other twenty outdoor venues in Madison are asphalt, and the City states which is which in the same line as the court count.

Do I need to bring a net?

Madison never says, at any venue, indoors or out. Nineteen of these are tennis courts, so a net of some height is generally there; what the City does not tell you is whether a pickleball net is available at any of them. Treat it as unknown, which is what the venue pages say.
