The Austin Tennis and Pickleball Center at Walnut Creek Sports Park has eight outdoor pickleball courts, by some distance the largest count in the city and more than three times the Austin average. It is lit during park hours and open Monday to Friday 8:30 a.m. to 10 p.m., weekends 8:30 a.m. to 9 p.m. It is also the only Austin venue the City marks "Reservations Required" rather than Open Play, so book before you go. No price is published on the pickleball page.
Eleven of Austin's twenty-one venues are lit, so this is a real choice rather than a single option. Dick Nichols District Park is the pick on count: five pickleball courts striped onto two multi-purpose courts, lit during park hours, open seven days a week from 7 a.m. to 10 p.m. If you are closer to the centre, Pan American and Rosewood are lit too, but check Pan American's roller derby schedule first.
Twenty-one of Austin's sixty courts are dedicated pickleball rather than lines on a shared slab. Pan American Neighborhood Park has three of them plus one striped court, lit, close to downtown on Chicon St. The catch is on the same page: the courts are unavailable Tuesday and Thursday evenings and weekend mornings from 9 a.m. for roller derby practice. South Austin Neighborhood Park's two dedicated courts, also lit, are the simpler option if that schedule does not suit.
Three Austin venues tell you outright that a net is not provided: Brentwood and Balcones say bring your own portable net, and Rosewood and Springwoods say "Nets not included." Rosewood is the one worth knowing about because it is otherwise among the better venues in the city: four courts, two of them dedicated, lit during park hours, open 7 a.m. to 10 p.m. daily. Bring a net and it is one of Austin's best. For the other eighteen venues the City says nothing about nets either way.
Austin publishes nothing about parking at any of these twenty-one venues. Two things are worth knowing before you drive. The Austin Tennis and Pickleball Center requires a reservation, so arriving without one is a wasted trip. Hancock Recreation Center closes its court to open play between 2:30 p.m. and 6:30 p.m. on term-time weekdays. At the pocket parks, expect street parking, though the City does not say so.

Fifteen of the twenty-one venues run the same schedule: "Open Play: 7 Days a Week, 7 a.m. to 10 p.m." The exceptions are where the useful information is. At Pan American Neighborhood Park the City states that courts are unavailable Tuesday and Thursday from 7 to 10 p.m. and at weekends from 9 a.m. to noon, for roller derby. Austin High Tennis Center shares its courts with Austin Independent School District: weekday evenings from 5:30 p.m. during term, seven days a week in summer. Hancock closes midday on term-time weekdays. South Austin opens at 8 a.m. rather than 7.

No surface is stated at any Austin venue. The City describes what a court is striped for, not what it is made of. Thirty-nine of Austin's sixty courts are lines painted onto a multi-purpose slab shared with other sports, and twenty-one are dedicated pickleball. Every venue reads "not stated" on surface.

Austin is the first city in this directory whose operator answers the lighting question at scale in prose. Eleven of these twenty-one venues carry the words "Lighted during park hours", and in a city where summer play happens after sunset that is the most useful fact on the page. It is also one of the operators in this directory that states that a net is NOT provided: Brentwood and Balcones say "bring your own portable net", and Rosewood and Springwoods say "Nets not included."

Anything an operator does not publish shows as “Not stated” rather than being guessed at, most often surface, fees and opening hours. Many of these courts are very probably free to play, but a belief is not a source, so we do not print it as one.
Sixty courts across twenty-one City of Austin venues, all outdoor. That makes Austin one of the largest cities in this directory by court count. A twenty-second outdoor location, Balcones District Park, is not published: its entry gives no court number and the geocoder cannot match its address.
Eleven of the twenty-one: Austin High Tennis Center, the Austin Tennis and Pickleball Center, Beverly S. Sheffield, Brentwood, Dick Nichols, Little Zilker, Pan American, Patterson, Rosewood, Shipe and South Austin. The City marks each one "Lighted during park hours". The other ten carry no lighting statement, which means unknown rather than dark.
At Brentwood, Rosewood and Springwoods, yes. The City says so in words: "bring your own portable net" and "Nets not included." At the other eighteen venues the City says nothing either way.
Booking is at one venue only. The Austin Tennis and Pickleball Center is marked "Reservations Required"; every other entry says Open Play. Across the whole of this directory only a handful of other venues take bookings, so an Austin reservation is a genuinely unusual thing. Cost is not stated anywhere: Austin states no price on its pickleball page.
Yes, and they are not yet checked. The City's page has a second section, "Pickleball Programming at Rec Centers", listing indoor courts at Austin, Dittmar, Dove Springs, Gus Garcia, Montopolis, Northwest, Parque Zaragoza and South Austin recreation centres, with open-play session times.
Austin sits in Travis County. Every venue in the county, including these, is listed on Travis County. There is no Texas state page yet either. A state page needs at least three published cities before it is a document rather than a copy of this one, and Texas has fewer than that today, so we have not written one.
Every fact on this page comes from one of these, and each venue names the source behind each of its own fields: Austin Parks and Recreation Department, checked 2026-09-04 · US Census Bureau, checked 2026-09-04 · The Picklr, checked 2026-09-15. How we verify.
