About this place

Two dedicated outdoor pickleball courts south of the river, lit during park hours, a straightforward and unusually reliable proposition by Austin standards. Dedicated means the courts are pickleball and nothing else, with no shared slab and no competing sport, and only eight Austin venues can say that. The hours differ slightly from the city standard: the City publishes "Open Play: 7 Days a Week, 8 a.m. to 10 p.m.", an hour later in the morning than the fifteen venues that open at 7.

Dedicated courts under lights is a combination only three Austin venues manage (this one, Austin High and Pan American), and of those three this is the only one with no scheduling complication attached. No school calendar, no roller derby, no reservation.

Getting there

1100 Cumberland Rd., Austin, Texas 78704, matched by the Census geocoder to Austin city, Travis County, south of Lady Bird Lake. Little Zilker Neighborhood Park, with four striped courts on one slab and also lit, is the nearest published alternative. The South Austin Recreation Center shares this street address and runs indoor pickleball on a published schedule, which is not yet checked. No parking guidance is published.

What to expect

Two dedicated courts under lights, 8 a.m. to 10 p.m. every day. For two pairs this is among the best venues in Austin: nothing else has a claim on the courts, the lighting is stated, and the hours are long. For a larger group two courts will not be enough, and Little Zilker's four are close by. Surface, nets and cost are unstated.

Questions about South Austin Neighborhood Park

How many courts are there?

Two, both dedicated outdoor pickleball courts, not lines on a shared slab.

When is it open?

Open Play, seven days a week, 8 a.m. to 10 p.m. Note the 8 a.m. start; most Austin venues open at 7. The City does not say why.

Are they lit?

Yes. "Lighted during park hours" appears in this venue's entry.

Is there indoor pickleball here too?

The City lists South Austin Recreation Center at the same address under its indoor programming section, with a multi-purpose indoor court striped for four pickleball courts and published open-play times. That section is not yet checked, so it does not appear on this site.

Do you run South Austin Neighborhood Park?

What claiming does and does not doShow less

You can claim this listing and correct anything on it. To be clear about what claiming does and does not do: it gives you control of your own facts and a channel to reach us, and it is shown on the page as confirmed by the venue with the date you confirmed it.

It does not mark the listing verified, because a claim tells us who you are rather than checking what is here, and those are different things. It also buys no ranking, no sorting and no placement advantage over an unclaimed venue. The moment claiming bought position this would be an advertising product rather than a directory, and the whole promise would be gone.

Something wrong here?

If you play here and this is out of date, tell us. Corrections come with a source and a date attached, the same as everything else, and a correction that changes a court count gets checked against the city record before it goes live.
