About this place

Two pickleball courts striped onto one multi-purpose outdoor court in Hyde Park, central north Austin, lit during park hours and open seven days a week from 7 a.m. to 10 p.m. Shipe is one of the older neighbourhood parks in the city and one of the eleven Austin venues where the City states the courts are lit, which on a two-court venue in a dense residential neighbourhood is the fact that decides whether it is worth walking to after work.

Hyde Park has an unusual concentration for a residential district: Shipe here, Hancock Recreation Center's court a few blocks south with its restricted hours, and Patterson to the east. Three venues, six courts, of which four are lit with full hours and two are governed by a recreation centre's programme.

Getting there

4400 Avenue G, Austin, TX 78751, matched by the Census geocoder to Austin city, Travis County. Avenue G runs through Hyde Park, a short distance from Hancock Recreation Center's court on East 41st Street and from Patterson Neighborhood Park in Cherrywood to the east. No parking guidance is published.

What to expect

One slab, two courts, lit, open until 10 p.m. daily. The straightforward version of the common Austin arrangement, with the lighting statement lifting it above the other two-court venues in the city. A group of eight will queue; a pair or two will not. Nothing is published about the surface, about nets, or about cost.

Do you run Shipe Neighborhood Park?

What claiming does and does not doShow less

You can claim this listing and correct anything on it. To be clear about what claiming does and does not do: it gives you control of your own facts and a channel to reach us, and it is shown on the page as confirmed by the venue with the date you confirmed it.

It does not mark the listing verified, because a claim tells us who you are rather than checking what is here, and those are different things. It also buys no ranking, no sorting and no placement advantage over an unclaimed venue. The moment claiming bought position this would be an advertising product rather than a directory, and the whole promise would be gone.

Something wrong here?

If you play here and this is out of date, tell us. Corrections come with a source and a date attached, the same as everything else, and a correction that changes a court count gets checked against the city record before it goes live.
