Best if you are new, or turning up on your own

Sanderford Road Park, on weight of courts. It is the largest pickleball site in the city at 10 permanent courts, all lit, and permanent courts are where the sign-up rotation Raleigh Parks describes actually works: paddles go on the board, games run to 11, and four players come off at the end of each one, so a single arrival gets into a game without needing to bring three friends. The city does not say whether nets are provided here, so take one if you have one.

Method Community Park: six permanent courts, lit, and explicitly drop-in only with no reservations, so nobody can have booked the place out before you arrive. Its own park page says the lighting is on a timer from dusk to 10 p.m. Two of the eleven Raleigh locations, Fred Fletcher Park and Southgate Park, have no lights at all, so those are daylight only.

Best when the weather is against you

Baileywick Park is the only location in this set with covered courts: its park page lists Court A as covered and Court B as covered centre, and pickleball is scheduled on Courts A and B. Two cautions. Court A was closed for repairs when we last checked and no reopening date has been published, and pickleball only has these courts inside set windows because basketball and futsal have them the rest of the week.

Parking

Raleigh Parks publishes almost nothing about parking at its pickleball courts. Only one park page states where to leave a car: Baileywick, whose page gives the lot at 9501 Baileywick Road. Fred Fletcher Park's page notes entrances off St. Mary's Street and Glenwood Avenue, and Jaycee Park's page mentions a parking lot on Wade Avenue. The remaining eight publish nothing usable. None of the eleven states a capacity, a time limit, a permit requirement or a fee. Five of these parks share their lot with a community centre, so a space is not guaranteed when a league is running. When to turn up

Only three sites are permanent pickleball courts: Method Community Park, North Hills Park and Sanderford Road Park, which hold 22 of the city's 44 courts. Method and North Hills are marked "Drop in only, no reservations". A reservation form exists for other locations, so at those you can arrive to find a court already claimed.

Raleigh Parks' guidelines set out a sign-up procedure at each facility. Players sign in or place a paddle, games are to 11 and win by 2, and at the end of every game all four players leave the court and the next four go on.

Baileywick is the one site with published pickleball windows: Monday to Friday noon to 4 p.m., Saturday 3 to 9 p.m., Sunday 7 a.m. to 2 p.m. Basketball and futsal have its courts the rest of the week. At the nine lit locations the lights run on a timer to 10 p.m.

What you will actually find

Two jobs were live on 3 September 2026. North Hills Park's pickleball courts were closed for a lighting upgrade from 24 August; daytime play reopened on 2 September and completion is targeted for 8 September, so night play may still be off. At Baileywick, the Pavilion-Court A is closed for repairs with no reopening date given. Baileywick's pickleball runs on Courts A and B, so half its pickleball surface is out.

Getting into a game

Raleigh Parks states that it has 44 outdoor courts at 11 locations. Twenty-two, at Method, North Hills and Sanderford Road, are permanent pickleball courts. The other 22 are lines on tennis courts at six parks, on basketball courts at Southgate, and on the shared hard courts at Baileywick. No fee is published for the outdoor courts either way, so cost reads "Not stated".

Indoors is a separate programme. Thirteen community centres run scheduled open-play sessions at $3 a session or $15 for a four-month pass, with nets and balls provided and a few paddles to borrow. The department publishes a monthly pickleball calendar as a PDF, books clinics through RecLink, and runs a pickleball mailing list and a pickleball@raleighnc.gov address.

How many pickleball courts are there in Raleigh?

Raleigh Parks states 44 outdoor pickleball courts at 11 locations, and its per-location counts add up to 44. Twenty-two are permanent courts at Method Community Park, North Hills Park and Sanderford Road Park. The other 22 are lines painted on tennis or basketball courts. The count covers city park courts only, not indoor sessions, private clubs or commercial venues.

Which Raleigh courts have lights?

Nine of the eleven. Raleigh Parks marks Fred Fletcher Park and Southgate Park as unlit; the other nine are lit, on a timer until 10 p.m. North Hills Park's lights were being upgraded when checked, with completion targeted for 8 September 2026.

Do I need to bring my own net?

At two locations, yes: Carolina Pines Park's note reads that you need to bring or borrow a net, and Southgate Park's says to bring your own. At the other nine the department does not say either way. Indoors, nets and balls are provided at the community centre sessions.

Can I book a court in advance?

It depends where. Method Community Park and North Hills Park are marked "Drop in only, no reservations". For other locations Raleigh Parks publishes a pickleball court reservation form, and Baileywick's page warns that walk-up play is not allowed on courts scheduled for a league or programmed activity.
