About this place

Fred Fletcher Park sits just north-west of downtown Raleigh on the former campus of the Methodist Home for Children, bought by the City in 1982. For pickleball it has two courts, lines painted on the park's tennis courts, and no lights. Raleigh Parks marks this location No in the Lights column of its pickleball table, and the park's own page records its tennis courts as having no lights and no backboard. It is one of two daylight-only pickleball locations in the city, with Southgate Park. The rest of the park holds an outdoor basketball court, a picnic shelter for 36 to 60, a softball field, a multipurpose field of 300 by 195 feet, a playground for ages 2 to 12 on sand, a water garden and wetland, and walking paths.

Getting there

The park's page gives the address as 820 Clay Street and 805 Washington Street, postcode 27605, with entrances off St. Mary's Street and Glenwood Avenue; the city's park amenities inventory records 805 Washington Street. 820 Clay Street is published here with the other as an alternative. Raleigh Parks' pickleball table lists this park at "514 Method Road", which is Method Community Park's address in the row below (a duplicated cell, not a second location). No parking guidance is published, and no restroom is recorded.

What to expect

Daylight play only, on tennis courts. With no floodlights, the usable window is short in winter. Nothing published says whether nets are provided, so bring one. Nothing published gives a surface material or its condition. The hard courts share the site with basketball, a softball field, a large multipurpose field and a playground. Raleigh Parks' sign-up guidelines apply: place a paddle or sign in, games to 11 and win by 2, and all four come off at the end of each game.

Questions about Fred Fletcher Park

Does Fred Fletcher Park have lights?

No. Raleigh Parks marks the location as unlit in its pickleball table, and the park's own page records its tennis courts as having no lights. It is one of two daylight-only pickleball locations in the city.

What is the address of Fred Fletcher Park?

820 Clay Street or 805 Washington Street, Raleigh 27605, with entrances off St. Mary's Street and Glenwood Avenue. Ignore the "514 Method Road" against this park in the city's pickleball table; that is Method Community Park's address, duplicated from the row below.

Do you run Fred Fletcher Park?

What claiming does and does not doShow less

You can claim this listing and correct anything on it. To be clear about what claiming does and does not do: it gives you control of your own facts and a channel to reach us, and it is shown on the page as confirmed by the venue with the date you confirmed it.

It does not mark the listing verified, because a claim tells us who you are rather than checking what is here, and those are different things. It also buys no ranking, no sorting and no placement advantage over an unclaimed venue. The moment claiming bought position this would be an advertising product rather than a directory, and the whole promise would be gone.

Something wrong here?

If you play here and this is out of date, tell us. Corrections come with a source and a date attached, the same as everything else, and a correction that changes a court count gets checked against the city record before it goes live.
