Outdoor Pickleball Courts in Portland, OR

Why this matters here

Outdoor is the default in most of this directory and a live decision in Portland. Seven of the eleven venues have outdoor courts and they hold 45 of the city's 59, but they are open dawn to dusk in a city where dusk is half past four in December, on surfaces the parks department warns are slippery when wet. Six of the seven are free, which only a handful of other cities in this directory can say of a single venue. The seventh, Portland Tennis Center, has sixteen courts, and its pickleball runs only from mid June to early September. So this page is really two lists: 29 courts you can walk onto for nothing on any dry morning, and 16 more that exist for one summer programme.

What puts a venue on this list

A venue appears here when a source places its courts outdoors. For all seven, Portland Parks & Recreation lists them under a heading reading "Outdoor courts" (or, for the tennis centre, describes "16 outdoor hard courts") and uses the word outdoor in the venue's own line. Nothing is inferred from a park being a park. The four community centres are absent because their courts are indoor.

How many outdoor pickleball courts does Portland have?

Forty-five across seven venues. Twenty-nine are the free park courts: eight each at Columbia and Sellwood, six at Gabriel, four at Pier, two at Laurelhurst and one at Hillside. The other sixteen are at the Portland Tennis Center and are available for pickleball only through a summer programme.

Are the outdoor courts open all year?

The six park sites are, dawn to dusk, first-come and first-served, with the city asking players to limit a session to an hour when others are waiting. No winter closure is published. The Portland Tennis Center's sixteen are available for pickleball only between mid June and early September.
