Outdoor Pickleball Courts in Tallahassee, FL

Why this matters here

All seven Tallahassee venues hold outdoor pickleball courts, and thirty-three of the city's thirty-four courts are outdoors, so this page is nearly the whole city. The City draws the line itself. Its pickleball page has two sections, "Indoor Pickleball Courts & Schedules" and "Outdoor Pickleball Courts & Schedules", and every published count sits in the second, or, at Jake Gaither, is split by the City's own words, "1 indoor court, 2 outdoor courts". The practical reason to filter is that outdoors is where the City's first come rule lives. "All Outdoor Courts are First-Come First-Play except during the times noted below", the page says, while "Indoor courts do not have First-Come First-Play available". An outdoor court in Tallahassee is one you can walk onto whenever nothing is scheduled, with a 90 minute limit when others are waiting. An indoor court is one you book or join at a session. The outdoor timetable is also where the free play is: Open Play at LeVerne Payne on Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday, and at Tom Brown on Monday, Wednesday and Sunday, drop-in and free in the City's words. Lighting is stated at one outdoor venue, Walker-Ford's "night play is available"; hours at one, Jake Gaither's 8:00am-9:00pm; surface at none. The largest outdoor set is Tom Brown's twelve.

What puts a venue on this list

A venue appears here when the City of Tallahassee's pickleball page lists it under "Outdoor Pickleball Courts & Schedules" with a court count. Seven qualify: Tom Brown Park with twelve, LeVerne Payne Community Center and Winthrop Park with six each, Walker-Ford Community Center with three, and Jake Gaither Community Center, Jack L. McLean Jr. Community Center and Lafayette Park with two each. Three need a word. Jake Gaither qualifies on its two outdoor courts and carries an indoor court as well, which does not count here. McLean qualifies on a stated count of two, although the City prints a resurfacing notice beside it saying the courts are unavailable "until december 5, 2025". Tom Brown's twelve are two kinds, four standalone and eight on "tennis courts 1-4", which the City counts as pickleball courts and so does this site. Four Oaks Park does not qualify. Its six courts are "used for pickleball only" and scheduled seven days a week to 10:00pm, but "5151 Four Oaks Boulevard" is found by neither the Census address file nor OpenStreetMap, so the venue is not published at all.

Which outdoor courts are free?

LeVerne Payne and Tom Brown, during their Open Play sessions, which the City writes are "drop-in and free". The other five venues are first come, first play with no stated price, so they carry no fee answer.

Can I reserve an outdoor court?

Only for Reserved Play sessions, at Tom Brown Park and Winthrop Park, online through Court Reserve or on 850-891-4940. Those sessions cost $3.50 to $5.75. Open Play is drop-in and first-come hours are not booked.
