Why this matters here

Every pickleball court in Saint Paul is outdoor, so this page and the city page hold the same six venues. In Minnesota that is a fact with a season attached. Thirteen courts across six sites, five of them striped onto tennis courts, none of them with a published lighting statement, in a city where the average January high is around 25°F. The City does run indoor pickleball: its pickleball page says plainly that "indoor pickleball courts are located in the gymnasium" and its recreation centres host open play. Not one of those gymnasiums carries a published court count, so not one of them appears on this site. The pickleball that can be vouched for in Saint Paul is a summer proposition; the winter alternative exists but is undocumented.

What puts a venue on this list

A venue appears here when the City of Saint Paul states an outdoor pickleball court count for it on that venue's facility page. Six qualify, from Arlington/Arkwright Park's single striped court to Edgcumbe Recreation Center's four. The outdoor part is established rather than assumed. At Edgcumbe and Duluth and Case, both recreation centres, the pickleball line sits under the page's "Outdoor Amenities:" heading rather than its "Indoor Amenities:" one. At the four parks, the City describes the courts as striping on tennis courts and its pickleball page ties that to outdoor in as many words. A site with no stated count does not qualify, including eight that appear on the City's own pickleball map.

What is deliberately not on this list

Nothing with only indoor courts appears here. Venues whose outdoor court count the operator does not state are also absent, because we do not assume a court is outdoor because we have not been told otherwise.

Questions about this list

Why are there only six venues when the City's map shows more?

Because a venue needs a stated court count to appear here, and eight sites on the City's pickleball map have none on their facility pages: Baker, Carty, Eastview, Hazel Park, Mattocks, Prosperity Heights, Rice Recreation Center and Martin Luther King Recreation Center. Mattocks lists "Pickleball (Outdoor)" with no number at all. That is a gap in the City's records rather than a claim that the courts do not exist.

Which is the biggest?

Edgcumbe Recreation Center, with four courts: double the Saint Paul median of two, and the only published venue in the city where a group of eight can rotate without waiting on a single surface.

Are any of these dedicated pickleball courts?

None of the six. Five are explicitly or evidently striped onto tennis courts and the sixth is listed without that detail. The City does have dedicated courts, three at Assembly Union Park, which it calls the first of their kind in the Saint Paul park system. They are not published here because the Census geocoder cannot resolve the address the City prints for that park.

Do the courts have lights or set hours?

Not stated at any of the six. Saint Paul's facility pages are amenity inventories: they list what is at a site and state nothing about hours, lighting, cost or surface.

Wider area

This list exists because at least three verified Saint Paul venues match it; below three we would not publish the page at all rather than ship a list of one. See every venue in Saint Paul, or how we verify for the source ladder behind each entry.
