About this place

Two pickleball courts striped onto the park's two tennis courts, in the Hamline-Midway area adjacent to Newell Park. Clayland is the one Saint Paul venue where the City writes a sentence about the place rather than only listing what is in it: the park "features two tennis courts striped for pickleball as well as two designated handball courts". Designated handball courts are rare in a municipal park inventory, and they tell you this is a site built for racquet and ball sports generally rather than for pickleball in particular.

Read moreShow less

Two courts is the typical Saint Paul venue; four of the six published here have exactly two. What is not typical is that Clayland appears nowhere on the City's own pickleball map, despite its facility page carrying a count. Edgcumbe Recreation Center is in the same position. A player using the City's map would not find this park, and a player using its facility pages would.

Getting there

901 Fairview Ave. N., Saint Paul, MN 55104, matched by the Census geocoder to St. Paul city, Ramsey County. Fairview Avenue runs north-south through Hamline-Midway, and the park sits beside Newell Park. No parking guidance is published.

What to expect

Two courts on two tennis courts, so the competing use is tennis and the surface is a tennis surface, which the City does not name. Nothing is published about hours, lighting or cost. Alongside the tennis and pickleball there are two designated handball courts, which means a busy afternoon here is a busy afternoon for several sports at once.

Questions about Clayland Park

How many courts are there?

Two, from the amenity list: "(2) Pickleball Courts". The City's park description says the same thing in words: "two tennis courts striped for pickleball".

Is this park on the City's pickleball map?

No. Clayland states a pickleball count on its own facility page and appears nowhere in the City's pickleball GIS layer. Edgcumbe Recreation Center is in the same position. This page publishes from the facility pages, because the pages are what state a number.

What else is at the park?

Two tennis courts (the same courts, striped) and two designated handball courts, per the City's description. The park is adjacent to Newell Park.

Is it free?

Not stated. Saint Paul publishes no cost for any of its pickleball venues. They are municipal park courts and are very likely free, but "very likely" is not a fact.

Do you run Clayland Park?

What claiming does and does not doShow less

You can claim this listing and correct anything on it. To be clear about what claiming does and does not do: it gives you control of your own facts and a channel to reach us, and it is shown on the page as confirmed by the venue with the date you confirmed it.

It does not mark the listing verified, because a claim tells us who you are rather than checking what is here, and those are different things. It also buys no ranking, no sorting and no placement advantage over an unclaimed venue. The moment claiming bought position this would be an advertising product rather than a directory, and the whole promise would be gone.

Something wrong here?

If you play here and this is out of date, tell us. Corrections come with a source and a date attached, the same as everything else, and a correction that changes a court count gets checked against the city record before it goes live.
