Pickleball Courts in Ramsey County, MN

One city in Ramsey County is published here: Saint Paul, with six venues and thirteen courts checked against the City's own facility pages. Ramsey is the most densely populated county in Minnesota and holds Roseville, Maplewood, White Bear Lake, Shoreview, New Brighton, North St. Paul and a dozen more suburbs alongside the capital, none of which has been checked against a named source. Within Saint Paul itself the coverage is incomplete in a way worth naming precisely: eight sites appear on the City's own pickleball map with no court count on their facility pages, one park lists pickleball with no number, and Assembly Union Park (whose three courts the City describes as the first dedicated pickleball courts in the Saint Paul park system) could not be published because the Census geocoder does not resolve the address the City prints for it.

The thirteen courts are spread thinly and evenly, which is characteristic of a park system that added pickleball by painting lines rather than by building facilities. Four of the six venues have exactly two courts, one has a single court, and Edgcumbe Recreation Center in Macalester-Groveland has four, the only site in the county where a group can rotate. Geographically they reach most of the city: Arlington/Arkwright and Duluth and Case on the East Side, Orchard in the North End, Clayland in Hamline-Midway, Homecroft and Edgcumbe in the south-west. Five of the six are pickleball striped onto tennis courts, and none of the thirteen courts has a published lighting statement, which in a Minnesota park system means the season is short and the evenings are unstated.

But the more interesting gap is inside Saint Paul, and it is the City's own: its pickleball map and its facility pages describe different sets of parks in both directions. Eight mapped sites carry no count; two counted sites, Clayland Park and Edgcumbe Recreation Center, are missing from the map. Somebody at the City could close most of the hole on this page by adding court numbers to eight facility pages, and until they do, a directory that only publishes stated counts will keep showing thirteen courts in a city that plainly has more.
