Charlie Vettiner Park has fourteen outdoor pickleball courts on the City's list, more than twice the next largest set in Louisville. Fourteen courts is a rotation that absorbs a crowd. The park is 283 acres, acquired in 1957, with a golf course, a dog run, disc golf, model airplane flying fields, restrooms and a hiking trail on its amenity list, open 6 a.m. to 11 p.m.

Best if you want a court inside a large old park

Iroquois Park has four courts in a park the City describes as planned by Frederick Law Olmsted as a "scenic reservation" of forested hillsides, with a WPA-era open-air amphitheatre for 2,366 people. It is 725.85 acres, acquired in 1888, the oldest park on this page, with restrooms, a sprayground and a wheelchair-accessible playground. Four courts is two games at once; hours 6 a.m. to 11 p.m.

Best if you want the newest park

New Walnut Street Park is the newest park on this page, with a "Year Acquired" of 2023 on its City page, forty-seven years after the next newest. It has two pickleball courts on the City's list, at 1327 W Muhammad Ali Blvd. It is 5.74 acres, the smallest venue here, with basketball, tennis, a sprayground and a playground. Two courts is a game rather than a rotation. The City lists no restrooms.

Parking

Louisville Parks and Recreation publishes nothing about parking at any of the sixteen parks on this page. The word does not appear on the pickleball page, and each park page uses the same fields: address, year acquired, size, hours and amenities.

The sizes tell you what kind of place you are driving to. McNeely Lake Park is 746 acres and Iroquois Park 725.85, so at those two the address locates the park rather than the courts. Two addresses deserve a second look. The City prints McNeely Lake Park's with a leading asterisk this site drops, and the Census geocoder answers Hays Kennedy Park's with a different street in a different postcode.

When to turn up

Louisville publishes one hours line and it is the same at every park, 6 a.m. to 11 p.m., under "Hours" on each of the sixteen park pages. Those are a park's hours, not a court's, and the City never says the courts are lit, so lighting is recorded as not stated at every Louisville venue.

What the City says about who plays and when is one sentence: its courts are "for all ages" and "promote fun and inclusion within our communities across the city". No open-play session, no league night, no rotation rule and no morning group is published for any venue, and this site does not invent one. Fourteen courts at Charlie Vettiner Park absorb a crowd; two at McNeely Lake, George Rogers Clark, Tyler and New Walnut Street is a single game.

What you will actually find

The City names no surface for any pickleball court in Louisville. No park page says asphalt, concrete, acrylic or cushioned. Nothing is said about nets either, so whether they are permanent, portable or brought by players is recorded as unknown at all sixteen venues.

What the City does say, once and for the whole set, is that the courts are outdoor. Its pickleball page opens with "Louisville Parks and Recreation provides several outdoor pickleball courts for all ages." Every count sits under that sentence, so all sixty-seven courts are recorded as outdoor and the indoor figure is left empty rather than written as zero.

Getting into a game

Sixty-seven courts across sixteen parks, every one of them outdoor on the City's word. Louisville is the first Kentucky city on this site and the first in Jefferson County, and with sixteen venues it is one of the larger published sets here. It is also the first consolidated city-county on the site, and that shows in the record. The Census geocoder names the place two ways, "Louisville city" for six of these addresses and "Louisville/Jefferson County metro government (balance)" for seven, while OpenStreetMap says "Louisville" for the other three.

What the City does not say is as much a part of the record as what it does: no lighting, no price, no surface, no nets, no parking. One venue on its list is not published. Hounz Lane Park, three courts at 2300 Hounz Ln., is run by Louisville Metro, but the Census geocoder places the address in Lyndon city, a separately incorporated city inside Jefferson County.

How many pickleball courts does Louisville have?

Sixty-seven, across sixteen City parks, all outdoor on the City's word: fourteen at Charlie Vettiner Park, six each at Fern Creek, Hays Kennedy, Wyandotte and Nelson Hornbeck, four each at Iroquois, Crescent Hill, Petersburg and Riverview, three at Des Pres, two each at McNeely Lake, George Rogers Clark, Tyler and New Walnut Street, and one each at Sun Valley and Riverside Gardens. The City also lists Hounz Lane Park with three, which this site does not publish.

Are the courts free?

Not stated. The City publishes no price for any court. Its pickleball page says "For rentals, please click here" without a price, a venue or a time, so rentals exist in some form and cost something the City has not published.

Why do the Fern Creek and Riverview park pages not mention pickleball?

The City does not say. Each has a count on the pickleball page, six at Fern Creek and four at Riverview, and a park page whose amenity list leaves pickleball out. The count publishes on the list alone.
