About this place

Eleven pickleball courts, the largest published set in Boulder: eight outdoor courts on tennis courts with pickleball lines, and three indoor courts in the gymnasium at drop-in times.

Read moreShow less

The eight is the City's table line, "8 pickleball / 4 tennis / Rolling / South Boulder Recreation Center". The three is the pickleball page's indoor schedule, "Sunday: 9 to 11 am on 3 indoor courts" and "Tuesday, Thursday: 1:30 to 3:30 pm on 3 indoor courts", with the City's own footnote that "There is no indoor Pickleball at South Boulder Recreation Center from June through October".

When this was read the outdoor courts were shut. The centre's page posted them closed from August 17 for "court resurfacing and restriping", with a reopening the City called tentatively scheduled for September 11.

Getting there

1360 Gillaspie, Boulder, CO 80305, as the City's location page prints it, phone 303-441-3448. The US Census address geocoder matched "1360 GILLASPIE DR, BOULDER, CO, 80305" at house-number level and placed it in Boulder County, in the incorporated place Boulder city.

The page answers "Parking" with "Yes" under ADA Accessibility and says no more. Restrooms, drinking fountains and RTD Access are listed. The building is open Monday to Friday 5:45 am to 9:00 pm and Saturday and Sunday 8:45 am to 4:00 pm. The outdoor courts have no hours of their own.

What to expect

Eight outdoor courts is enough for a rotation, and the City runs one: every day of the week, 8:30 to 11:30 am, on six of them. Outside that window the courts are "first come and free to all park visitors", or reserved at $10 an hour up to 7.5 days ahead. The City's adult league plays its matches here and at North Boulder.

Indoors, three courts on Sunday mornings and Tuesday and Thursday afternoons with the daily entry fee or a pass, and none at all from June through October. Neither lighting nor surface is stated.

Questions about South Boulder Recreation Center

Why does the City say eight courts in one place and six in another?

Its court table lists "8 pickleball" for this centre; its outdoor drop-in line sets aside "6 outdoor courts" for the morning session. Eight is the inventory and six is the morning allocation, and both figures are the City's own.

Is it free?

Outdoors, yes, on the City's sentence "Courts are first come and free to all park visitors". Indoor drop-in is included with the daily entry fee or a pass.

Do you run South Boulder Recreation Center?

What claiming does and does not doShow less

You can claim this listing and correct anything on it. To be clear about what claiming does and does not do: it gives you control of your own facts and a channel to reach us, and it is shown on the page as confirmed by the venue with the date you confirmed it.

It does not mark the listing verified, because a claim tells us who you are rather than checking what is here, and those are different things. It also buys no ranking, no sorting and no placement advantage over an unclaimed venue. The moment claiming bought position this would be an advertising product rather than a directory, and the whole promise would be gone.

Something wrong here?

If you play here and this is out of date, tell us. Corrections come with a source and a date attached, the same as everything else, and a correction that changes a court count gets checked against the city record before it goes live.
