Free Pickleball Courts in Boulder, CO

Why this matters here

Every pickleball court in Boulder is free to walk onto, so this page holds the same five venues as the city page: North Boulder Recreation Center, East Boulder Community Center, South Boulder Recreation Center, Chautauqua Park and Foothills Community Park, twenty outdoor courts between them. The City says so in one sentence on its Racket Sports page, "Courts are first come and free to all park visitors, a reserved court is available to secure your date and time", and again in its FAQ, where unreserved courts "remain free to use on a first-come, first-play basis". Most parks departments never think to write it down; Boulder did. It is one of seven cities on this site with a free court, and, with Cape Coral, one of only two where every published venue is free. Free has two edges here, and the City states both. Free is the walk-up price; a reservation, which the City calls "exclusive use" of a court, costs $10 an hour, doubled from $5 on November 14, 2025. And free applies to the outdoor courts. The nine indoor courts are "included with your daily entry fee or pass", so an indoor session costs whatever the door costs, a figure the City does not print on the pages read.

What puts a venue on this list

A venue appears here when the City of Boulder states that playing on it costs nothing, and all five published venues qualify under the same sentence. It sits under "Outdoor Court Reservations" on the Racket Sports page and covers every row of the court table beneath it. At the two parks, Chautauqua and Foothills, that is the whole of the price. At the three recreation centres it is the price of the outdoor courts, and the City draws the indoor line itself: "To play indoor drop-in pickleball, recreation center daily admission fee or membership is required." What does not qualify is a court you have reserved: $10 an hour per court, one per person per day, two hours at most, with no refunds for weather. At Foothills that distinction matters more than elsewhere, because a court not reserved between 7 a.m. and noon "is designated as inline hockey court".

What does a reservation cost?
