Five parks, 29 pickleball courts, one operator, one city. Everything we cover in Mecklenburg County is run by Mecklenburg County Park and Recreation and falls inside the Charlotte city limits: Clarks Creek Park with eight courts, Clanton Park, Freedom Park and Martin Luther King Jr. Park with six each, and Colonel Francis J. Beatty Park with three.
Mecklenburg publishes no court count anywhere. It publishes a list of individual numbered courts, split between those you can reserve and those that are always open play: "Clarks Creek Park: Courts 1-5" under one heading and "Clarks Creek Park: Courts 6-8" under the other. A park's count is the number of distinct court numbers the county names at it, and every park's numbers must reconstruct one complete consecutive run, with no gaps and no number under both headings. All five do.
What this county does not tell you is almost everything else. There is no lighting information for any court, no surface, no opening hours, no statement about nets, and no price for the reservations it charges "a small fee" for. Every one of those reads "Not stated" on all five venues. Mecklenburg is at once the most precise operator in this directory about which courts exist and among the least forthcoming about what they are like.

The five sites are spread across the width of Charlotte rather than clustered. Clarks Creek Park sits in the far north of the city off Hucks Road, Colonel Francis J. Beatty Park in the far south-east, and Clanton, Freedom and Martin Luther King Jr. between them across the centre and west.
The more useful distribution here is not geographic but administrative. Nineteen of the 29 courts are reservable and ten are always open play, and the county keeps some back at every single park: three at Clarks Creek, two each at Clanton, Freedom and Martin Luther King Jr., and one at Beatty. So a player without a booking has somewhere to go at any of the five, though at Beatty that means one court out of three.
The county classifies its parks by size, and the pickleball is concentrated in the larger classes. Freedom Park and Colonel Francis J. Beatty Park are Regional parks; Clarks Creek, Clanton and Martin Luther King Jr. are Community parks. None is a Neighborhood park, which matters because the county warns that neighbourhood parks "do not typically have parking or restroom features".
Mecklenburg County Park and Recreation, checked 2026-09-03 · City of Charlotte Open Data, checked 2026-09-03
Mecklenburg County has 290 parks and facilities across more than 23,000 acres. This page covers five of them.
The most concrete gap is twelve courts sitting one sentence away from publication. The county's courts page carries a heading called "Hybrid Courts", listing six numbered courts at Latta Park and six at Tuckaseegee Park, and never defines the term. It is very probably a surface lined for both tennis and pickleball. Very probably is not good enough to publish, so both parks are excluded until the county writes down what a hybrid court is.
The last gap is the rest of the county. Mecklenburg Park and Recreation also serves Cornelius, Davidson, Huntersville, Matthews, Mint Hill and Pineville, and the county's courts page names no pickleball in any of them. That absence is a fact about the page rather than about those towns. Private and commercial venues make up a large part of Charlotte's pickleball, and none of them publishes a court count that can be cited here.

Because courts 1 to 10 at Freedom Park are tennis courts, listed separately on the same page. The county runs one numbering series across both sports at that site rather than restarting it for each. The pickleball courts are 11 to 16, and they still reconstruct a complete run with nothing missing.
Unknown. The county publishes no lighting information at all on its courts page, so all 29 courts read "Not stated" on this site. It is a gap in publishing rather than evidence that the courts are unlit.
Each park's published coordinates were resolved against Census county and incorporated-place boundaries. All five return Mecklenburg County, FIPS 37119, and the incorporated place of Charlotte. That check earned its keep at Colonel Francis J. Beatty Park, whose postcode is 28105, a Matthews mailing ZIP, while the city parks layer labels it Charlotte. A mailing address and a municipal boundary are different things, and here they disagree.
The North Carolina state page lists every county and city we publish. Everything above is checked against a named source; how we verify explains the ladder we work down and what we refuse to do.
