About this place

Freedom Park is one of Mecklenburg County's Regional parks and one of Charlotte's best-known green spaces, and its pickleball courts are numbered 11 to 16. That is not an error. Courts 1 to 10 at Freedom Park are tennis courts, listed separately higher up the same county page, and the county runs a single numbering series across both sports at this site.

Read moreShow less

As a Regional park rather than a neighbourhood one, Freedom Park sits outside the county's blanket warning that its smaller parks lack parking and restrooms.

Getting there

2435 Cumberland Ave, Charlotte, NC 28203, south of uptown. The county publishes no parking guidance for the park and no capacity or restriction, which for a Regional park drawing visitors from across the city is a meaningful gap. Nothing on the county's courts page states whether there are restrooms at the courts themselves.

What to expect

Six courts, four bookable and two always open, sharing a site with ten tennis courts. Expect a destination park rather than a neighbourhood one, busy in a way the court count alone does not convey. The county states that any court not on its reservable list is open on a first-come, first-served basis, so courts 13 and 16 are yours if they are free. What it does not publish is lighting, surface, nets, opening hours or the price of a reservation, so all of those read "Not stated" here. If you are looking for the courts on arrival, the numbering is your friend: the pickleball is the 11-to-16 block.

Questions about Freedom Park

Why do Freedom Park's pickleball courts start at number 11?

Because courts 1 to 10 at the same park are tennis courts, listed separately on the county's page. Mecklenburg runs one numbering series across both sports at this site instead of restarting it, so the pickleball block begins where the tennis block ends.

How many pickleball courts are there, and which can I book?

Six, numbered 11 to 16. Courts 11, 12, 14 and 15 are reservable for a small fee; courts 13 and 16 are permanently open play. The county does not publish what the fee is.

Do you run Freedom Park?

What claiming does and does not doShow less

You can claim this listing and correct anything on it. To be clear about what claiming does and does not do: it gives you control of your own facts and a channel to reach us, and it is shown on the page as confirmed by the venue with the date you confirmed it.

It does not mark the listing verified, because a claim tells us who you are rather than checking what is here, and those are different things. It also buys no ranking, no sorting and no placement advantage over an unclaimed venue. The moment claiming bought position this would be an advertising product rather than a directory, and the whole promise would be gone.

Something wrong here?

If you play here and this is out of date, tell us. Corrections come with a source and a date attached, the same as everything else, and a correction that changes a court count gets checked against the city record before it goes live.
