Why this matters here

Three Boulder venues hold indoor pickleball courts, nine between them, and the City counts every one of them in words: "3 indoor courts" at North Boulder Recreation Center, "3 indoor courts" at East Boulder Community Center and "3 indoor courts" at South Boulder Recreation Center, on its pickleball page. What indoor means in Boulder is specific, and the City is exact about it. "Drop-in pickleball is offered inside our recreation center basketball gymnasiums. Indoor play is only available during the designated drop-in pickleball times, listed below, and pickleball nets are not available outside listed drop-in hours." So an indoor court here exists for a listed window and not otherwise: Monday, Wednesday and Friday mornings at North Boulder; Monday afternoon, Monday evening and Sunday afternoon at East Boulder; Sunday morning and Tuesday and Thursday afternoons at South Boulder, and nothing at South Boulder from June through October. The price is the door: "Indoor drop-in pickleball is included with your daily entry fee or pass", and the City does not print that fee on the pages read. Boulder is one of the few operators on this site that publishes a written drop-in schedule for both its indoor and its outdoor courts, so the window is known before you go.

What puts a venue on this list

A venue appears here when the City of Boulder's pickleball page counts indoor courts at it. Three qualify, with three courts each: North Boulder Recreation Center, whose line reads "Monday, Wednesday, Friday: 7:30 to 10:30 am on 3 indoor courts"; East Boulder Community Center, listed on that page as East Boulder Recreation Center; and South Boulder Recreation Center, which carries the City's asterisk, "There is no indoor Pickleball at South Boulder Recreation Center from June through October". South Boulder qualifies through the off-season because the count is stated and the closure is printed beside it. What does not qualify is any court the City does not call indoor. Chautauqua Park and Foothills Community Park have no gymnasium and no indoor line. The "Two platform tennis courts with pickleball lines" the City offers for overflow at North Boulder are not counted at all.

What is deliberately not on this list

Covered and climate-controlled courts are not on this list. A roof over an outdoor court is not an indoor court, and in a city with this much winter that distinction is the whole point of the page.

Questions about this list

Are the indoor sessions free?

They are "included with your daily entry fee or pass", so the price is the recreation centre's door charge, which the City does not print on the pages read. The outdoor courts at the same centres are free.

Is there indoor pickleball in summer?

Not at South Boulder: "There is no indoor Pickleball at South Boulder Recreation Center from June through October". North Boulder's and East Boulder's schedules carry no such note.

Which indoor venue has an evening session?

East Boulder Community Center, Monday 6 to 8 pm on three courts. It is the only evening indoor session the City prints. The other indoor windows are mornings and afternoons.
