The Mesa Tennis & Pickleball Center has twenty-one lighted pickleball courts, one of the largest counts at any single venue on this site. It is staffed, it has a pro shop and ball machines to rent, and you can book a court online up to a fortnight ahead. It also costs money and keeps unusual hours: $9.00 per court per hour before 5 p.m., $13.00 after, open mornings 5:30 to 11:30 every day and evenings 5:00 to 10:00 on weekdays only.

Best if you just want to turn up

Kleinman Park has four pickleball courts in a park that is open sunrise to 10 p.m., with restrooms, ramadas and a softball complex on the same site. The City states no charge for the courts, though it does not state that they are free either. Courts here are booked through the Tennis & Pickleball Center if you want one reserved.

Best only if you own a net

Chaparral Park is one court, and the City is unusually honest about what that means: lines on a basketball court, shared with basketball, and no net provided. If you have a portable net in the boot this is a perfectly good hit close to central Mesa. If you do not, it is not a pickleball court that day.

Parking

The Mesa Tennis & Pickleball Center is staffed, and asks you to "check-in at the front desk prior to your reservation to check-in and get your court assignment number". It warns that "Court fees must be paid inside pro shop before using the facility." Kleinman Park and Chaparral Park are ordinary municipal parks, open sunrise to 10 p.m., with no gate and no desk.

When to turn up

The Mesa Tennis & Pickleball Center closes in the middle of the day. Its published hours are 5:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. every day, then 5:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m. Monday through Friday only. At the weekend it does not reopen in the evening at all.

The twenty-one courts are therefore open for about six hours on a weekday, a smaller window than the court count suggests. The City warns in its own words that "Tournaments, league and lesson programming, special events, or maintenance may limit court space for the general public". Kleinman and Chaparral are open sunrise to 10 p.m., and Mesa says nothing about when either is busy.

What you will actually find

Mesa states a surface for none of these courts. What it does say about Chaparral Park is more useful than a surface note would be. The entry reads in full: "Pickleball Court (1 lined court shared with basketball use, bring your own portable net)".

One court, not several. Lines painted onto a basketball court, with the basketball use still there. And no net provided, which is the most practical fact on this page. The Center's twenty-one courts are described by the City only as "lighted pickleball courts". Kleinman says least of all: four courts, counted, and no description of them.

Getting into a game

Twenty-six courts at three venues, and twenty-one of them are in one place. The Mesa Tennis & Pickleball Center holds one of the largest single-venue pickleball counts in this directory. It is staffed and floodlit, with a pro shop and ball machines for hire, and play costs $9.00 per court per hour before 5 p.m. and $13.00 after.

Then there is a long tail. Mesa's parks pages carry the words "Pickleball Court" at six more parks (Gene Autry, Christopher J. Brady, Red Mountain, Augusta Ranch, Sheepherders and Washington) and not one of them states a number. Red Mountain and Augusta Ranch have lines on a basketball court and ask you to bring a net. People plainly play at all six. The real number of pickleball courts in Mesa is comfortably higher than twenty-six, and this page will not guess how much higher.
